Ellery Becomes an Inspiration Thanks to CaringBridge Donors

“CaringBridge is a wonderful and worthwhile cause to donate to.” —Heidi Case, Ellery's mom

When Heidi Case was 30 weeks pregnant with Ellery, doctors discovered that Ellery’s lungs and heart were surrounded by fluid, a condition called hydrops which is typically fatal.

Heidi and her husband, Greg, were devastated. They called a friend who had recently given birth to a premature baby for advice.

“The first words out of her mouth were to start a CaringBridge site. I went on later that afternoon and started it,” says Heidi. “I’m so glad that we had it back before she was born just to have that support and everyone cheering us on.”

Widespread Support

Heidi began updating Ellery’s CaringBridge website frequently, and word quickly spread about the site. Soon the guestbook was full of messages from high school friends she had lost touch with.

“The best part of the whole thing was getting support from people who we hadn’t heard from in a long time,” says Heidi. “CaringBridge is such a great thing for people that are dealing with illnesses. It’s quick; it’s easy; and it’s wonderful.”

An Inspiration for Others

Ellery is truly a miracle baby; less than five percent of babies with hydrops survive. Through her CaringBridge site, Ellery has become an inspiration for other families who are in similar situations.

“I’ve had at least 10 families contact me whose babies have had hydrops. The fact that they can read Ellery’s story and get hope and inspiration that babies can survive this is the best thing ever for me,” says Heidi. “It’s a great feeling to know that we can help people.”

Thankful for Donors

Heidi and Greg are incredibly grateful for their CaringBridge experience and the people who make it possible. “CaringBridge is a wonderful and worthwhile cause to donate to,” Heidi says. “When people donate to CaringBridge, they are allowing Ellery’s story to go on and help others.”

Heidi is certain the generosity of donors enabled Ellery to be the inspiration she is today.
