A welcome relief
Lisa Fleming spent most of March cloistered in a hospital room. Her four–year–old daughter, Sophia, was being treated for symptoms of a rare genetic disorder at St. Paul Children’s Hospital in Minnesota.
Lisa learned about CaringBridge from a staff member in the hospital’s computer–equipped Family Resource Center. “CaringBridge makes it a lot easier to cope. It is such a relief for parents,” Lisa explains.
“I’m the queen of low–tech,” she adds. But she says setting up the website was easy, even for someone with little experience using the Internet.
“CaringBridge really helped me manage all the attention coming our way so I could attend to Sophie’s needs,” says Lisa. “I could quickly get the word out without a lot of phone calls, and we were so encouraged by the warm words people wrote, especially during the deepest, darkest days.”
A source of comfort
During Sophia’s hospital stay, Lisa sometimes felt alone, especially in the small hours of the night.
“But then I would go to the Family Resource Center and check our CaringBridge website. I could take in all that love, support and hope when I needed it the most.”
Lisa now tells just about everyone she meets about CaringBridge.
“I tell them, ‘You need to get on CaringBridge,’” she says with enthusiasm. “I even walked parents to the computer to help them create a CaringBridge website. It’s such a wonderful resource, everyone should know about it.”
